History

We started as part of a listed group of companies, providing advice on wealth management to individuals. When the group decided to discontinue these operations in 1998, an entrepreneurial staff member – Clive Johnstone – purchased the entity and continued servicing the client base, under the name of Clive Johnstone Financial Services. Whilst based in La Lucia (Kwa-Zulu Natal), clients extend across the country as well as internationally, including Clive’s home country of Zimbabwe. In 2010 Colin Harbottle joined Clive as a partner. Clive’s sudden illness resulted in an all too early demise and the business was purchased by Colin and Amy van der Linde in 2014.

In 2018 we rebranded ourselves as HARVEST FINANCIAL CONSULTANTS. The connotation of planning, planting, patience and produce is something that resonates with our industry.

Throughout our existence we have recognised the importance of building strong relationships with our clients. Whilst building wealth is the end goal, the path holds the challenges of volatile markets. It is through the strength of the relationships and trust earned that we have been able to retain a loyal client base, assisting them with holding the course in the realisation of a shared long term vision.

Consultants

Colin Harbottle

Colin Harbottle qualified as a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) in 1988. After almost 9 years in the profession, he left Coopers & Lybrand for Swiss Re Southern Africa. Initially involved in the Life Insurance side of the business, he took responsibility for the company’s investment activities. He furthered his studies through a United States based professional body (Association for Investment Management and Research) and was admitted to the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts in 1996. He went on to form a new company, Swiss Re Investors, and built an investment management team, which he headed up until 2003. In 2004 he partnered in a retirement consulting company and in particular initiated bespoke investment products. In 2009 he ventured out on his own before partnering with Clive Johnstone in 2010.

Amy van der Linde

Amy van der Linde’s career has always been associated with the financial services industry. Her early years involved administrative functions pertaining to life insurance products. In 2005 she was coaxed away from ABSA to provide client support and manage back office activities for the company. Her attention to detail and efficient servicing of client requests quickly made her a vital part of the business, ensuring that the ethos of the highest level of service is maintained. She is often our first responder when clients seek support.
